The much-awaited Beijing Olympics 2008 Torch Relay will start its way from March 25th 2008. Olympic Torch Relay will commence with the traditional lightening of the Olympic Flame. The venue for this relay to start will be the ruins of the Temple of Hera in Olympia, Greece.
As per the custom, the high priestess of the temple at Olympia will first praise Apollo, the Sun God, and then light the flame through sun and a parabolic mirror. This flame then will be transferred in to an urn, which will then be taken to the ancient stadium by the priestess herself and she will pass it over to the first Greece runner.
The first Greece runner will then along with around 645 torchbearers will start the relay across different parts of Greece for the next six days. Finally on March 30th 2008, Beijing Olympics 2008 Torch Relay will finish at the Panathinaiko Stadium, the venue for the first modern Olympics in 1896. On that particular day itself, the Olympic Flame will be handed over to the host committee, which this time will be in China.
The arrival of the Olympic Flame will be celebrated in Beijing in a ceremony on March 31st 3008. After this entire extravaganza, the final relay will begin on April 1st 2008. The Olympic Torch with the slogan “Light the Passion Share the Dream” and theme “Journey of Harmony” will commence its world tour. This grand tour will last till April 28th 2008 and Olympic Games Torch Relay will be carried to 19 cities worldwide.
In China, the Beijing Olympic Torch Relay will commence on May 2nd and after been taken to all the provinces of the People’s Republic of China, this torch will finally arrive in Beijing on August 6th. The host city will fulfill the purpose to light the Olympic Stadium with this torch in a glittering opening ceremony. Having made a journey of about 137,000 kms in around 130 days with over 21,880 torchbearers, the Olympic Torch will then rest at Beijing, the host city.
